Snoop Dogg has slowly morphed from one of the most respectable under dogs of rap to somewhat of a novelty act. The man has made a living from rhyming ‘G’ with ‘Double G’. This clip he filmed on the set of  the southern fried vampire series True Blood is Snoop’s ode to the little blonde boner inducing Sookie Stackhouse. It will no doubt have him rolling in green (both varieties).

Keep your ears peeled for the best line “Bill ain’t for real / he drink Tru Blood / Snoop is the G / I smoke true bud.”

Bond performing a very James Bond sounding song, Explosive. I would have loved to be in the room when this act was first assembled, hair flicks for all! I imagine the sentiment would have felt similar to that of creating Il Divo, I find it curious to create pop groups for the middle-aged, you can almost imagine the record companies pre-selling the albums to elevator manufacturers, inflight radio providers and Chinese restaurants. I must be getting old because I enjoyed the above in some way, maybe the raw commercialism drew me in, or the slow-motion ‘wind in the hair’ pan flute breakdown… that or the legs. Cha-ching!

I don’t know if this is some community service announcement about the dangers of unprotected sex, but it worked on me. I’ll never have sex without a shotgun or a crowbar on me at the least.

When your made up of half of Tekel and the whole of Cosmo Vitelli good things generally happen. Bot’OX, the car loving duo made up of Julien Briffaz and Benjamin Boguet have release some nice 12” in the past month. The labels they’ve released through sound like a roll call at the school of cool; DFA, I’m a Cliché, DC Recordings, and Marketing. Their latest offering, out through I’m a Cliché, is Overdrive. A driving song in all manners of the word, the song punches through your headphones like a Ferrari breaking 100 m/hr. Three excellent remixes from Logo, Welcome Stranger (ie Thomas Bullock ie Rubn Tug) and especially Morgan Geist, make this release really stand out. Due out June 7th, get your hands on it.

Parisian beatmaker Onra has released his third Album ‘Long Distance.’ Classic bass lines, electro infused beats and soul vocals, Onra is really on top of his game. Pulling samples from every corner of the globe, Onra has made one funky album.

Modular psyche dudes Tame Impala have uploaded their entire album on their Myspace site. Apparently this is the thing to do these days. Lcd Soundsystem, MGMT etc have all uploaded their content on the web a couple of weeks before their album is released. I’m not complaining, just pointing it out.

I stumbled across this nice lil’ essay by Sady Doyle on Weezer’s frontman; Rivers Cuomo. At first, I was apprehensive, i mean come on, how much can you write about a guy who plays guitar and sang songs about sweaters. Well, apparently a lot.
